We’re excited to share some of our safety initiatives that we have in our company.
In this edition of our safety news, we will be sharing our RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM (RPP) and some elements that are included in our RPP. These include the Annual Training and Annual Fit Testing for employees at risk of occupational lung diseases.
At a later date, we will be sharing more elements from our RPP. They are Provision of Suitable Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), Medical surveillance and Safety inspection to check on proper usage of RPE.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION PROGRAM (RPP)
The Respiratory Protection Program is one of the control measures implemented by the company to reduce the risk of employees from occupational lung diseases. Key elements for the program includes annual training, annual fit testing, provision of suitable respiratory protective equipment (RPE), medical surveillance (where applicable) and safety inspection to check on proper usage of RPE. The Respiratory Protection Program is reviewed annually to ensure the relevancy and effectiveness of the program.
Annual Training
The annual training provided for the employees includes:
• Hazard and risk of hazardous substances involved in they work which may lead to occupational lung diseases;
• Control measures to reduce the risk of occupational lung diseases;
• Correct selection and use of respiratory protective equipment (positive & negative seal check);
• Inspection and maintenance of the respiratory protective equipment
Training provided by our WSH Coordinators for our employees at risk of occupational lung diseases.
Annual Fit Testing
Annual fit testing is arranged for employees who are required to put on a respirator when performing their work. The fit testing is conducted by original equipment manufacturer (OEM) approved personnel. The annual fit testing re-confirms the correct fit of the respirator that forms a tight seal on the user’s face. This ensures that users are receiving the expected level of protection by minimizing contaminant leakage into the respirator.
