Happy Deepavali

2021.11.03

Deepavali or Diwali is one of the most widely celebrated festivals. The festival, whose name comes from the Sanskrit word dipavali, meaning “row of lights,” serves as a beacon of brightness every year, celebrating the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

It is celebrated to honor Lord Rama (incarnation of Lord Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Lord Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana. People lit their houses with diyas (clay oil lamps) to celebrate his victory over evil (light over darkness).

This year Deepavali falls on 4th of Nov 2021. It is generally a time for visiting, exchanging gifts, wearing new clothes, feasting, feeding the poor, and setting off fireworks.

During the festival, diyas are lit and placed in rows along the parapets of temples and houses and set adrift on rivers and streams. Homes are decorated, and floors inside and out are covered with rangoli, consisting of elaborate designs made of coloured rice, sand, or flower petals.

It is also believed, the goddess of happiness and good fortune, Lakshmi roams the earth on this day and enters the house that is pure, clean and bright.

Deepavali can mean so many things to so many people, but at its core, for us it’s about celebrating the light in this world over the darkness, being with the people we love.

Traditionally, as an appreciation, we at Mirador treat dinner meals to all our colleagues.

Happy Deepavali To All…!!!!
