Tanabata Festival

This is the start of our third year since we joined Daisan group (http://www.daisan-g.co.jp/en/index.html), a Japanese scaffold manufacturing and assembling company. This has brought us opportunities to enjoy some Japanese cultures, on top of the cultural kaleidoscope of our nation based on various ethnic backgrounds.

In Japan, people celebrate Tanabata on 7th of July. Same as in Chinese culture (七夕节, 牛郎织女), this festival is related to the story of two stars separated by the Milky Way. 7th July is the only chance in a year for the separated couple to see each other. Japanese people believe that if we wish upon stars on that evening, our wish will come true. They will write their wish on a piece of paper, one wish in each, and hang them onto bamboo leaves with some decorations.

This year, we set a Tanabata decoration near the reception space of our head office on Sims Close. Instead of bamboo leaves, we chose morning glories which Japanese people love to grow in summer.

We wrote our wish in our own languages, such as Chinese, Tamil and Japanese. Not only our employees but also visitors are joining this wish-making. If you have a chance to visit our office in July and August, please join us by picking up a piece of ‘Tanzaku’ and writing your wish!
