{"id":259,"date":"2021-08-17T14:09:32","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T06:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/?p=259"},"modified":"2021-08-17T14:47:35","modified_gmt":"2021-08-17T06:47:35","slug":"hungry-ghost-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/259","title":{"rendered":"Hungry Ghost Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hungry Ghost Festival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hungry Ghost Festival,\u00a0takes place on the 7th month of the Lunar Calendar.\u00a0In Singapore, the festival is observed throughout the entire 7th Lunar Month, which is usually around the month of August of the Western calendar.\u00a0It is mostly observed by Chinese Buddhists and Taoists who believe that during\u00a0the 7th lunar month, the gates of hell are open and hungry ghosts are released from the netherworld to wander on earth among humans.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the seventh lunar month, many Chinese observe the festival by making offerings of food, joss sticks, candles, paper money and other paper effigies such as houses, cars and clothes to the dead.<sup>\u00a0<\/sup>As the paper offerings have to be burnt, burning activities in open areas are prevalent, especially on the first, 15th and last day of the festival.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-265 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/7th-Mth-Pry-6-500x667.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/7th-Mth-Pry-6-500x667.jpg 500w, https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/7th-Mth-Pry-6.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 359px) 100vw, 359px\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-263 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/7th-Mth-Pry-4-500x667.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"358\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/7th-Mth-Pry-4-500x667.jpg 500w, https:\/\/miradorbcpl.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/08\/7th-Mth-Pry-4.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Traditionally, we at Mirador hold a Grand Prayer on the 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Day at our Benoi office. Taoist priests would perform rites and make food offerings, as well as pray for happiness and good health. Management, Supervisors and Workers attend the prayers.
